Quit The Peak

"Quit the Peak" has become quite a montra for me over the last few weeks... the prospect of actually doing it leaves my heart pounding, cheeks reddened, and a huge smile on my face. I had an interview today at a place that I would love to work, and it seems quite promising. The idea of getting out of the situation that I am in seems almost too good to be true. I remember what it is like to start a new job; to go in with a smile and not dread the hours ahead. As it is right now, the front door to my work seems heavier and harder to open each time I enter.

Saying Goodbye

Best Girls
Originally uploaded by primalktc.
The past week and a half was really great... two of my best girls were in town and we hung out with a lot of people that I love but don't often get to see. This picture is of me and my three best girl friends (also ex-roomies): Leen in from NYC, Rock who lives here with me (but the combination of our busy lives leaves little time for getting together), and Smita in from Lexington, KY. I had a really amazing time that night, from what I can remember.
Man, I love it when they are here, but I will never get used to watching them leave.

Go Away Already!

You Suck

The Backstreet Boys launched their "Comeback Tour" this week. This news leaves me dismayed, horrified, and a little sad. When will we dig ourselves out of this popstar-boyband-american idol rut? Are we destined to listen to catchy electronic beats and high pitched love lyrics forever?

Now Showing

Now Showing

Today, joining the ranks of aclaimed films such as The Little Mermaid 2, Oceans Twelve, The Whole Ten Yards, and Dumb and Dumberer comes (drumroll please): Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous.
Now, I never saw the first one, but I think I have a pretty good grasp on the plot. The sequel seems to be very similar to the first, except Regina King is joining the cast to play Sandra Bullock's sidekick. I think she is a great actor but should stick to films more similar to her previous: Ray, Down to Earth, Enemy of the State, and Poetic Justice.
I think my point is that it seems like a movie can not exist in this day and age without a terrible sequel being made, and the worst part is that people must be going to see these things cause they keep getting produced! Let's put a stop to this, people. Ban the Unnecessary Sequel!

This Is Only A Test

Testing

I was just watching "Starting Over," one of my VERY guilty pleasures. Just as Rain was about to reveal something very scandalous, the emergency broadcast system issued their weekly test and I missed it.
I understand the need for this kind of testing, but Damn.

Trying To Learn
Originally uploaded by primalktc.
The entire time I attended college I spent most of my time in a little old building called Quirk. In the winter we would all have to wear coats, hats, gloves, scarves (really the whole deal) in order to stay warm. The heat barely ever worked at all and when it did, it smelled like rotten eggs. Bottom line, the place needs a new furnace system. This picture was taken in the middle of class one chilly winter day. It's hard to learn when it's freezing but it's also hard to learn when someone is clanking around in the furnace next to you.
It's also slightly aggravating to know that the university president's house down the street cost upwards of 5 million dollars and has heated floors. Brr.

Decisions, Decisions....

decisions

My recent goal has been to apply to one job per day until I find something that will at least cut down my shifts at work. The ultimate goal would be to find something to totally replace the hell hole that I work in at the moment. So, here is where the problems begin.
Due to the fact that I am applying to EVERYTHING that I can imagine that I am qualified for, there are certain jobs that I would like to have more than others. One is a great full time position at the Library, but they don't stop taking applications for the position until Friday. Between now and then, I have a follow up interview at a dog kennel and my first interview at a day care (both part time). Do I take a job at say, the kennel, when I know that they want someone permanent and if I got offered the library job I would definately take it?
As much as I may come off as a jerk sometimes, I really wouldn't want to do that to someone. Then, on the other hand, what if I was offered the kennel job, turned it down, and then didn't get any better offers??
This is a serious conundrum. I need guidance, advice, prayers: somebody help me!

The Chonganator

My cat is turning into a royal terror. She has this habit of scratching the side of my matress and my bedding while I am sleeping. She also likes to scratch and bite any toes that might be hanging off the side. She has a scratching post, which she loves, and she also has a "Chonga, NO!" squirty water bottle that she hates. I am to the end of my rope, and something needs to be done with this cat. I can not bring myself to de-claw her as I have read that they take out the top joints of a kitty's toes in order to do so, since the claw is actually attached to the bone. I would never have her bones removed just cause she is annoying, but check these nail caps out at www.softpaws.com. I like the pink ones. So, look for a Chonga near you to have pretty pink nails in the future.

Another annoying feature of my cat: Her favorite hobby is tipping over glasses of water. Once the water is spilled all over the place, she doesn't like to drink it or anything. She usually just runs away. When I first got her, I always kept a glass of water on my bedside table. After being drenched a few times, I now keep a bottle of water by the bed. In my household, we have gotten used to the water tipping activity and tend not to leave any unfinished water glasses lying around. Unfortunately, I didn't realize that I had one on my desk when I went to sleep last night. It actually took her awhile to find it, but eventually *clink* and there's water all over my desk and computer. Keep in mind that if it had been a glass of juice, beer, wine, or even milk, she would have not payed any attention. She just loves to tip that water.

Experiment pictured below: How long can a glass of water sit on the ground before Chonga tries to tip it? About 2.5 seconds.

Waiting

It seems like all I'm doing lately is waiting for something. Waiting to hear from grad school, to hear from this place or that place about a job. Waiting to escape from the repetitive cycle that my life has become.
Today I waited 20 minutes in a dentist's waiting room, the whole time thinking, "What am I waiting for? Pain?" Perhaps that terrible numbing sensation that I can still feel on the whole right side of my face.
With this kind of waiting comes worry. Worry is so stressful.

I've Had Enough

Originally uploaded by primalktc.
I cried at work last night. This was a result of virtually no business (I was cut by 7:30 and made 20 dollars), managers out to get someone (anyone), and being totally and completely burned out.
This is not the type of "burned out" that can be solved by a few days off. It is time for me to toss my suspenders in the fire. I need a new job. And not another serving job. After 6 years of waiting on tables, I don't think I can do it anymore. So the question remains: what am I going to do? I have a degree but I don't feel qualified for anything. The search begins.
I don't know if I will make it through tonight's shift. I may go completely insane.

Not Again!

snowcar
Originally uploaded by primalktc.
Well, it snowed a lot again. Spring is twenty-something days away, which means absolutely nothing. I am so incredibly sick of winter and I really don't want to clean off my car and go to work.
Thank goodness it's Brad's turn to shovel the walk.
