Quitting Time

I've thought about just shutting down the blogs, but I think I'm gonna leave them up for archive purposes (feel free to browse through if you like) and also, if I ever decide to blog again, I'd like to keep the addresses that I have.

So, farewell world, if you're a friend, check out the MySpace blog. Peace.

That 70's Show

70s show

While I've never been a huge fan of That 70's show, it's always been one of those things that I'll randomly catch when I feel the need to be a couch potato and nothing else is on. Sometimes it's pretty funny. Since I always see it on UPN or something, I hadn't seen a new episode in a long time until the other day.

Can you say Jumped the Shark like a thousand times over? Eric and Kelso are very oddly no longer even on the show (yeah, apparently Ashton Kutcher has made the big time but what, tell me, is Topher Grace doing that beats his debut sitcom?), even though all the kids still hang out at Eric's house. Steven is married, and there is some weird new guy chilling with the gang.

I say end it already. It's painful to watch.

Lions Hire New Head Coach

Marinelli

In a desperate move today, the Detroit Lions (aka Millen's Morons) hired Rod Marinelli as their head coach (do we see a pattern here? Is Matt Millen so concieted that he needs to hire coaches that have 'M' last names like him? Morningwheg.. Mariucci... and now Marinelli). Let's take a look at his vital stats:

* Assistant head coach/defensive line coach for Tampa Bay, where he has worked since 1996.

* Reputation as an outstanding line coach and teacher.

* Has never been a head coach at any level.

* Also has never been a coordinator, although Tony Dungy in Indianapolis and Lovie Smith at Chicago have tried to hire him for the job but the Buccaneers have blocked it.

* 56 years old, born in Rosemead, Calif.

* Played offensive and defensive tackle at Utah in 1968 before a one-year stint in Vietnam.

* NAIA All-America at offensive tackle in 1972 for California Lutheran.

* Coached 20 years at western colleges — Utah State, California, Arizona State and Southern Cal — before moving to the NFL.

WOW... So (not) impressed. Now, a few strategies he mentioned at today's press conference:

* “Football is a show-me game. I’m tired of talking. You start putting on pads and do the work. Let our film talk for us.”

* On quarterback Joey Harrington: : "I'd like to sit down and visit with him."

* “I want to be physical, that’s my style. I want to run the ball with power, defend with power.”

* "I belive in morale. It may be the No. 1 issue in this league."

* "I believe in the development of skill."

* "You have to be hard, but you have to be smart."

* "I want a team that will be in great physical condition."

* "I want a team that will play one snap at the time. And I know how to teach that."

Yeah, as if I couldn't have pulled similar gems right out of my ass, too. Things are really looking up for us this season. Oh, and I'm not bitter, in case you were wondering.

Happy Birthday! Or not...

Back to School

Vacation is over. It had to happen eventually. But I'm not ready!!! I had such a wonderful time on break (I literally caught up with EVERYONE I know). Why can't things be that way all the time? Slumber parties, holidays, bar nights, novel reading, reality television viewing... it was all so amazing. In the immortal words of William Shatner, "If we never had a problem, that's what life would be like."

I know I'm whining here, but I already have about a bazillion pages of scholarly journals to read and I JUST DON'T WANT TO DO IT! Oh well, back to the ol' grind.

Two A.M.

2am has been bugging me since I got back from Chicago... they have bars there that are open until 4 or 5. That seems to me now to be much more reasonable.

I went bowling tonight and could have stayed out many more hours... probably a combination of being conditioned to Illinois hours and the endorphines running through my viens cause of the tattoo I got tonight. That's right, a sweet clover on the top of my foot. More on that later when I have a pic to show.

Michigan, get with it. Bars open till 4am is the sweetest thing ever.
